So, there are many limitations of courses at university and colleges in any counselling or psychology services, or helping professions….

Firstly, it’s essential to know that it’s government legislation to only work within your capacity in which you are trained.

See here for more –

In other words, false advertising about the validity of your services, training or skills is a big no-no, even in the online space.

Know what your limitations are…. and work within your capacity…

Ethical decision making may be taught at counselling or psychology colleges…. though there is no ethical decision making taught to practitioners about running their businesses – on the business side.

It’s essential to consider the ethical implications of all of the services you provide to the community….

e.g.

Are you doing good? Are you doing no harm to your clients? How will you know that?

If you don’t have the skills or the training – should you be providing such services? How do you know if you have the skills?

If you’re providing any kind of training or courses, do you have the skills to do so?

Training is a very different market to therapy or coaching.

I’m here to help people about this…..

For example – do you have any training experience?

It’s essential to know how to run courses in order to deliver them.

Would you know how to write a course or training program plan?

Would you know how to set out learning outcomes?

It’s so super important to know the difference between an ‘information session’ and a training course.

The problem is in the field these terms are being used interchangeably – so that people are getting confused…….

e.g. courses that aren’t really courses, training that’s not really training and webinars that are seen to be comprehensive training.

In this article, the PLUS model is referred to and suggested as the way to decide on ethical matters, relating to business. Click on this article for more:

The PLUS model is an acronym that means:

P – does your decision align to policies and procedures,

L – Is it legal?

U – Will it apply to the universal and ideological principles of your organisation?

S – Is for self, can you back yourself with the decision being right, good, fair and ethical?
